The Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Rookie of the Year” is an Icon Reimagined

This year, Jordan Brand is celebrating its 40th anniversary. And to mark this momentous occasion, it’s bringing back one of its most iconic non-original colourways with the Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Rookie of the Year.” A low-cut version of the original “Rookie of the Year” that dropped in 2018, if you didn’t manage to secure that pair back in the day, this is the perfect alternative.

While Michael Jordan is now more associated with colours like red and black and white, back in the ’80s, he was a big fan of earthy tones. In fact, when the NBA gave him with the Rookie of the Year title four decades ago, he actually accepted the prestigious award in a tan suede jacket. And unsurprisingly, this piece looks just as good in sneaker form.

This Air Jordan 1 works on top of a crisp leather base, and is overlaid by “Golden Harvest” nubuck panels across the toebox, lacing system, and heel. Perforations are dotted across the front for added ventilation, and around the back, you’ll find the legendary winged basketball emblem that plays a huge part in Air Jordan history.

Underfoot, the midsole is painted in a creamy, off-white hue for a vintage vibe, and it’s infused with Air tech for added comfort and cushioning. All of this is then finished off with a big Nike Swoosh, which glides across the lateral and medial sidewalls.

While it remains to be seen if this version will feature additional details tied to MJ’s rookie season, such as the memorable quotes and stats, the Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Rookie of the Year” is expected to be one of the biggest drops of the year. Set to release on April 18th, let us know which if you’ll be adding these to your collection, and be sure to keep it locked at Captain Creps for your best chance to secure your size!
