Arguably the most popular colour combination in recent memory makes its way to the New Balance 550. The New Balance 550 “Black White Panda” flaunts the brand’s own take on the “Panda” colourway. Unlike the usual Black and White trainers we know, this one rocks a dominant Black with Cream White hues on other panels.
The New Balance 550 continues to make waves since the Boston-based brand revived the shoe in 2020 thanks to the Aime Leon Dore collab. Since then, we regularly get general release colourways such as this upcoming “Panda” makeover. 80s sneakers really have something in them that makes them timeless; even decades after they first came out.
Basketball trainers from the 80s pose an aesthetic that remain popular for decades. The likes of the Nike Dunk and Air Jordans 1 to 4 were just some of the most iconic hoops icons from the 80s. We can now add New Balance’s P550 model to the equation.
Formerly called the New Balance P550 Basketball Oxford, the 550 originally came out in 1989. Legendary NB designer Steve Smith incorporated this low-top shoe as a less restrictive alternative to the high-cut 650.
Leather makes up the upper, with perforations on the sides for breathability.
New Balance branding makes up the sides, tongue, heel, and even the rubber cupsole. An embroidered 550 on the forefoot adds more identity to the vintage trainer.
This New Balance 550 “Black White Panda” features an all-black upper with Cream White hues on the “N” logo and the midsole. Basketball textures on the “N” motif pays tribute to the sneaker’s hoops origin in the 80s.
Scheduled for a May 2022 release, keep an eye out for its release on the New Balance website.
