You gotta catch ’em all! Celebrate Pokemon’s 25th anniversary with this Converse Chuck Taylor All Star x Pokemon “First Partners”. Featuring some of the most iconic Pokemon creatures that fans can easily recognize.
Hit Japanese video game Pokemon first graced the 8-bit digital console Nintendo Game Boy in 1996 with the release of Pokemon Red and Green. The game centers around a world filled with colourful and powerful creatures called “Pokemon”; which players can catch, train, and battle with. By 1997, the Pokemon anime series debuted and went on to become globally recognized.
Both the video game franchise and anime series remain popular today. New Pokemon creatures appear as the story continues to unfold. But the likes of Pikachu, Meowth, Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle linger in people’s minds.
A fellow icon but in terms of sneakers, the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star came out in 1917. The then basketball shoe stayed away from the usual leather and opted for canvas fabric – increasing flexibility. Available in both high-top and low-top forms, the Chuck Taylor All Star revolutionised the status quo of trainers as it continued to be the main hoops option for more decades.
By the 80s, the Chucks transitioned into lifestyle and dominated the streetwear culture.
With this latest collab between Converse and Pokemon, two globally recognized icons team up for a footwear and apparel collection.
This Converse Chuck Taylor All Star x Pokemon “First Partners” arrives in a classic black canvas and white rubber sole makeover. Pokemon designs pop up all throughout the upper.
On the lateral side, the popular Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle. and Bulbasaur bring a colourful mix of palettes. Pikachu is the main sidekick of the protagonist Ash in the anime series. While the three latter Pokemon creatures are the first options you can choose from in the video game.
On the medial sides, Meowth and Jigglypuff appear.
A “Pokemon” label graces the tongue, while the Chuck Taylor Patch mixes red and white to mimic the Pokeball.
On the heel, Pikachu’s signature thunderbolt bridges the “All Star” tag.
Stay tuned for this release in mid-December 2021 as Pokemon celebrates its 25th anniversary.
